Boeie

I built a 1mx2mx1m metal larynx construction. I placed it on a buoy at
de Nieuwemeer in Amsterdam. The plan was to stay on the buoy, in the larynx construction for 24 hours and read the names of deceased refugees that died because of drowning or due to a longue infection. The performance lasted for 7 hours, I was interrupted by the police, who came by helicopter, 5 cars and a fire brigade boat to ‘safe me’. I didn’t proceed my performance, other wise the ‘rescue action’ would turn into an arrest. How come someone who doesn’t need help gets it? Whereas people who actually do need help, are completely ignored?

The police decided to bring me to my mother, who had brought me to the buoy herself that day. It was 02:30 at night when I had to ring the bell and wake her up. She got a speech from David, the head of the police department. When they left we drank a cup of tea on the couch.

The work ended with me writing a personal letter to my mother.
